James "Knockbox" Hamilton hails from the Black Hills of South Dakota, where his passion for the guitar began in 2001 when he picked up his brother’s abandoned axe. In a few short years, his blues trio Déjà Voodoo was in high demand throughout the region, as was his solo performances at local clubs. Steeped in the blues like Oolong at 200°, James came to Denver in the fall of 2010 with the aspiration of breaking into the Front Range’s music scene. Instead he landed a spot with the Reformers, forced to get along with Ryland. James percolates a Breakfast Blend of Hendrix, Cream, SRV, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Lang, Robert Cray, and Ray Charles.
